Chemical ventures from ideas to scaled solutions – publication in Nature Portfolio Chemical Engineering

Journeys that start with an idea to solve urgent problems and are eventually implemented for the benefit of many are scarce. In particular, building chemical technology companies is extremely tough. Therefore, I believe that the message we provide with “Chemical ventures from ideas to scaled solutions” will help those who have big ambitions, and that many experienced stakeholders will find familiar aspects of their own journey.

In my view, it is never too early to talk about how a given technology or potential solution can be deployed. This is why I include discussions in my lectures to undergrad and grad students, and challenge my colleagues during work sessions. Using empathy can help us to find unique advantages that are difficult to ‘see’ when we focus only on profit or maximising technical indicators.

A big thanks to Miguel Modestino, who orchestrated this timely collaboration with Hannah Murnen, Aimee Rose, Susan Schofer, Staff Sheehan and Richard Wang, in the first anniversary of Nature Portfolio Chemical Engineering.
